Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - In the 2009 home opener, Pacific dropped a 1-0 decision to West Coast Conference opponent, Saint Mary's.

With the loss, Pacific fell to 0-1 on the year, while Saint Mary's improved to 1-0 in 2009.

The two teams started out the first half evenly matched up, as the Gaels notched eight shots to Pacific's seven. Both teams stepped up their games, culminating in the 70th minute, when Saint Mary's finally snuck one past Pacific to take the final 1-0 margin. After Pacific tried for an attack on its half of the field, the Gaels pushed the ball back up and found Jessica Menzhuber in the counter attack. Menzhuber headed in a pass from Ashley Soro to score the only goal of the game.

One minute prior, sophomore midfielder Angelica Figueroa (Linden, Calif.) set up in front of goal and took a shot that just missed, bouncing off of the crossbar. Figueroa's attempt was the best opportunity the Tigers had on the evening, as they missed nine shots on goal.

During the first period, Menzhuber took the first shot of the game for the Gaels at four seconds in, sending one into the hands of junior goalkeeper Jill Medigovich (San Diego, Calif.) for her first of five saves on the night. Menzhuber followed up again with a wide kick past the goal 26 seconds in.

The Tigers aggressively pushed the ball back to their side of the field and found Figueroa in front of the goal at 3:02, as she kicked it wide for Pacific's first shot of the night.

Figueroa's seven shots were a team-high for Pacific, as well as her three shots on goal. The only other Tiger to send multiple shots in the contest was freshman midfielder Maricela Padilla (San Jose, Calif.), who took two, both on goal.

Menzhuber led all players with eight shots overall and four on goal.

Pacific next returns to action when they host Portland State on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.
