Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis were defeated by No. 52 Long Beach State, 6-1, on Friday, April 3. The loss dropped the Tigers to a 8-11 overall 2009 record and 4-3 in conference play. The victory moved the Beach to 12-6 overall and 7-0 in Big West play. Long Beach is now the No.1 seed going into the Big West tournament.

Long Beach claimed the doubles point early with victories in the No. 3 and No. 2 slots. Pacific then saw a doubles victory from the No. 1 position as sophomore Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) defeated Long Beach's  Jessica Weeks and Hannah Grady, 8-3.

In singles play the Tigers saw one victory from junior Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) in the No. 6 slot. Fisher defeated the Beach's Lisa Sutton, 6-3, 6-3.

Pacific's top two players - No. 84 Widjaja and Tiger senior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) suffered losses at home on Friday. Following the No. 3 position match that secured the win for Long Beach, Twarowska was defeated by Rachel Manasse in a match pushed to a super tie breaker, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7).

Following Twarowska's match, nationally ranked No. 84 Jenifer Widjaja battled No. 100 Hannah Grady but was handed an upset loss as Grady took the match, 7-5, 7-6 (3). The loss puts Widjaja at 16-3 for the 2009 season and is her third Pacific career loss. 

The Tigers return to the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts on Saturday, April 4 when they host the Cal Poly Mustangs at 12:00 p.m.
