Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team suffered a tough 4-3 loss to Fresno Pacific on Friday, Mar. 20. The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-8 on the season, while Fresno Pacific moved to 12-1.

Fresno Pacific defeated the Tigers in two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior Svenja Arens (Bensburg, Germany) picked up Pacific's lone doubles win at the No. 3 spot.

Junior Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) picked up a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Ashley Sherr at the No. 6 singles slot to even the match at 1-1. Fresno Pacific retook a 2-1 lead with a win at the No. 2 position, with Ornella Gentile defeating Arens. At the No. 5 position, sophomore Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) defeated Elizabeth McFeeters to even the match again.

Fresno Pacific took the match with victories at the No. 3 and No. 1 positions. Maria Klokotzky defeated Nezhura at No. 3, while Tiger sophomore No. 87 Jennifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) dropped a tough 7-5, 6-4 decision to Katia Sabate at the top spot. It was just the second loss of the season for Widjaja, as her singles record fell to 13-2.

Pacific senior Clara Schumacher (Zaragoza, Spain) won at the No. 4 position to conclude the match, getting a hard-fought 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (5) victory over Vanessa Heroux.

The Tigers return to the court on Sunday, Mar. 22 as Pacific hosts Boise State at 1 p.m. on the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
