Santa Clara, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team earned its second victory of the season with a 4-3 win over Santa Clara on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Pacific improved to 2-3 on the season, while the loss dropped Santa Clara to 1-2 overall.
Junior Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) secured the third and final match victory for Pacific, to give the Tigers the win in the overall match. Arens outlasted Santa Clara's Carmen Pham in three full sets complete with two tiebreaks, 6-2, 6-7 (10), 7-6 (7). Tigers earned the win after taking the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles positions.
Sophomore Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) remains undeated in singles play for the season, as she has now won all five of her matches in the No. 1 position for the Tigers. Widjaja easily defeated Stephanie Galaninena, 6-3, 6-2.
Santa Clara got the first point of the match by defeating the Tigers 2-1 in doubles action. Arens and sophomore Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) won their match versus Kacie Wagner and Kimmi Cox, 8-6, in the third doubles spot to give the Tigers their only victory in doubles matches.
Pacific is back to action tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 8 as the Tigers host UC Santa Barbara in the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts at 11 a.m.
