Long Beach, Calif. - In the final day of action at the Big West Conference Championships, senior Matt Lundy (Lafayette, Colo.) finished his Pacific career with a championship swim in the 1650 Free as the Tigers placed fourth as a team. The women's team finished in third place for Pacific.
Lundy posted a time of 15:19.10 in the 1650 Free to win the event by better than three seconds ahead of Alex Arbios of UC Davis, who finished in second place at 15:22.46. Lundy's time qualifies for the NCAA B-cut minimum and earning consideration to compete in the NCAA Championships.
Another highlight for the Tigers on Saturday was the performance of freshman Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.) as he finished fifth in the 200 Backstroke in 1:50.04.
"We were definitely were the underdogs in this meet," said head coach Adam Kennedy. "We only had 16 guys and 17 is considered a full team. We had a lot of great finishes and I'm really proud of how well they did, ."
