Poor Final Round Dooms Pacific at USC Collegiate

Feb. 24, 2009

Thousand Oaks, California - A stellar first day, playing tough against the nation's top teams, wasn't enough for the Tigers to hold on to a top ten finish at the USC Collegiate. Pacific managed a final round 305, 15-shots worse than their opening round Monday at North Ranch Country Club.

A final round 75 by Charlie Van Sicklen and 76 by TJ Bordeaux weren't nearly enough for the Tigers to stay competitive against top ranked USC, UCLA and Washington; teams the Tigers had leads on coming into Tuesday. Bordeaux finished in 30th place with a 54-hole score of 220 while both Kucich and Lakdawala posted final round scores of 77.

"We played tough this week," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "The end result shows a slightly different story but this team is much, much better. Trust me on that. We didn't completely control our ball out there and when you're playing against the best in the country you have to do that if you want to win."

Stanford stormed back to take the team title over Brigham Young at 839 while Cal finished third with host USC right behind at fourth.
