Pioneers Power Past Tigers

Stockton, Calif. – The visiting Pioneers of the University of Denver defeated the Pacific men's swim team, 159-98. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 0-4 on the season while Denver improves to 4-0 on the year.

The Tigers took to the pool for a late morning meet against the University of Denver at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. To start the day, the men's 200 Medley Relay teams touched the wall with times of 1:38.85 and 1:42.68 for a third and fourth place finish.

In the individual events, Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljubljana, Slovenia) finished first for Pacific in the 1650 Free (16:18.32) and 500 Free (4:42.23).

Freshmen Chris Weber (Valencia, Calif.) led the Tigers in the Breast events. In the 100 Breast, Weber finished second behind Robin Lindgren of Denver with a time of 1:00.54. Weber also swam the 200 Breast, touching the wall in 2:14.32 for the fourth place finish.

Sophomore Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.) was Pacific's top swimmer in the two Back events. Byers finished fourth in the 100 Back (54.70) followed by Dave Mathews (Dublin, Ireland) and Chris Berg (Chico, Calif.). In the 200 Back, Byers finished second behind Gannon Totura of Denver with a time of 1:59.42. Also swimming the 200 Back for Pacific were juniors Tyler Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Berg.

In the 100 Free, freshman Kevin Schirmer (Danville, Calif.) touched the all in 49.02 for the third place finish. Sophomore Jack Pope (Lahaina, Hawaii) touched the wall in 49.76, with freshman Clay Christy (San Diego, Calif.) and junior David Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) rounding out the top eight.

Byers, Sean Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md.), Garrett Murphy (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Bart Platow (Westport, Conn.) finished first through fourth in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:14.37, 4:22.11, 4:30.55 and 4:34.09 respectively.

Closing out the day the Tigers finished back-to-back in the 200 Free Relay to claim the top two spots.

Pacific travels to Fresno, Calif., for the Fresno Pacific/UC Santa Cruz tri-meet Nov. 21, at 12 p.m.
