Tigers Split At The Fresno Pacific Tri-Meet, Defeat UC Santa Cruz 164-124.

Fresno, Calif. - At the Fresno Pacific Tri-Meet the Pacific men's swim team defeated UC Santa Cruz 164-124, while losing to Fresno Pacific 172-116.

The men's 200 Medley Relay team started the day off for the Tigers with a second place finish behind Fresno Pacific touching the wall in 1:38.25. In the 400 Free the men's relay teams finished back-to-back for the third (3:19.88) and fourth (3:22.92) place spots.

Junior Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and freshman Zach Zlotoff (San Jose, Calif.) touched the wall back-to-back for the first and second place finish in the 1000 Free with times of 9:53.96 and 9:59.68 respectively. Freshman Scott Tyler rounded out the top five for Pacific, finishing in 10:27.51. Ojstersek also finished first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:50.05 while Zlotoff and Bart Platow (Westport, Conn.) took the third (4:53.13) and fourth place (4:53.55) spots.

In the 100 Back junior Daniel Platow (Westport, Conn.) and sophomore Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.) touched the wall back-to-back for the second and third place finish with times of 55.94 and 56.25 respectively. In the 200 IM, Byers was Pacific's top swimmer with a time of 2:01.93.

Freshman Chris Weber (Valencia, Calif.) and Jonathan Alves (Davenport, Iowa) claimed the first and second place spots it the 100 Breast with times of 1:00.79 and 1:01.68 respectively. Freshman Erik Kauppinen (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) finished the event in 1:07.43. Weber and Alves also took the top two spots in the 200 Breast, touching the wall with times of 2:14.33 and 2:15.53 respectively. Senior Patrick Walton (Lodi, Calif.) claimed the third place spot in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:15.82.

In the 200 Fly freshmen Sean Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md.) led the Tigers with a time of 2:02.44 for the third place finish. Bart Platow (Wesport, Conn.) claimed the fourth spot behind Dunnigan with a time of 2:03.39 while senior Garrett Murphy (Pleasanton, Calif.) touched the wall in 2:07.68 for the seventh place spot.

Junior Tyler Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif.) finished the 200 Back with a time of 1:58.38 for the second place spot behind Erik Thiessen of Fresno Pacific. Byers and Chris Berg (Chico, Calif.) rounded out the top five for Pacific. Junior David Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) had Pacific's best finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 54.94.

With the win and loss Pacific improves to 1-5 on the season. The Tigers return to the pool Dec. 3-5 in Federal Way, Wash., at the USA Swimming Short Course Nationals.
