The Tigers led 24-20 with 3:04 left in the second half until Mark Payne made a free throw, an alley-oop dunk and two more shots from the free throw line to give the Aggies a 25-24 margin. Including Payne's five points, the Aggies finished the first half with a 10-4 run to lead 30-26 at halftime.

The Aggies led by six points early in the second half, but the Tigers staged a commanding 14-0 run capped off with a basket by Joe Ford to give Pacific a 47-37 lead at the 11:29 mark. The Tigers built their biggest lead at 72-57 with 2:26 left to play.

After Oliver made a lay up with 1:17 left in the game, the Aggies had failed to score a basket from the floor since the 10:38 mark, staying alive with 17 free throws within that span.
