Pacific Suffers Tight 4-3 Loss to No. 39 UNLV

Las Vegas, Nev. - The Pacific Tigers women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season to No. 39 UNLV in the second match for both squads at the UNLV Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 25.

The loss dropped Pacific to 1-1 on the season, while UNLV improved to 2-0 overall.

On the road against one of the top women's tennis teams in the country, the Tigers pushed the Rebels to the limit. After dropping the doubles point, Pacific dropped the No. 5 and No. 3 singles matches to fall behind 3-0 in team points. The Tigers responded with victories from sophomore Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 spot over Kristina Nedeltcheva. Following a straight set win from sophomore Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine), senior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, German) rallied for a 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot over Nikol Dimitrova to tie up the match at 3-3.

Unfortunately sophomore Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) just suffered a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 loss at the No. 3 position.

The Tigers return to the court almost immediately as Pacific faces New Mexico State at 1 p.m.
