Las Vegas, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team opened the season in dominant fashion as the Tigers swept Weber State, 7-0, on Saturday, Jan. 24 in the opening meet for both teams at the UNLV Invitational.

Today was the beginning of the Tigers' 2009 season which was delayed after yesterday's rain out at UNLV.

The victory moved Pacific to 1-0 on the season, while Weber State moved to 0-2.

Senior Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) authored one of her best matches as a Tiger, defeating Weber State's Karlie Hancock 6-0, 6-0 in singles.  Sophomore Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) did her best to equal Schumacher's efforts, sweeping Alyssia Pyne 6-0, 6-0 in singles play. 

Redshirt sophomore Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Greyce Farias of Weber State in the No. 1 position, 6-0, 6-1. This is Widjaja's first season playing for the Tigers after sitting out the last 12 months due to NCAA transfer regulations.  Playing her first match at the top position, she did not disappoint.  Widjaja allowed her opponent to take just one game in the match.  

Partnered with  in doubles action, Widjaja also swept her match, as the two of them defeated Caroline Drugge and Brittiny Moore, 8-0.

Pacific returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. against tournament host UNLV and will also face New Mexico State at 1 p.m.
