Sept. 21, 2008

Box Score

San Francisco, Calif. - Playing on the road for the first time in two weeks, the Pacific soccer team picked up their first road win of the season with a 1-0 victory at the University of San Francisco (USF) on Sunday, September 21. The win moved the Tigers over .500 on the season as they improved to 5-4-0 overall while the Dons dropped to 4-4-1 on the year.

As they have done throughout the last few weeks, the Tigers dominated the run of play, racking up shots while holding their opponents at bay. In the contest, Pacific outshot USF 17-to-4, forcing Kelly Pohle to come up with eight saves on the night for the Dons.

From the outset, the Tigers outplayed the Dons, jumping on the scoreboard quickly to take the early lead. Just 8:13 into the contest, freshman Laura Hogan (Poway, Calif.) cashed in one of Pacific's 17 shots, notching her first collegiate goal en route to putting the Tigers up 1-0, a score that would end up being the difference in the game.

With a through ball played behind the Dons' defense by sophomore Kim Hargrave (La Palma, Calif.), Hogan found herself in a one-on-one situation against Pohle that proved to be too much for the USF goalkeeper. Alone with the 'keeper, Hogan struck a shot with the outside of her right foot, punching the ball past Pohle towards the back post and into the net. The assist was Hargrave's first career assist and first career point.

One goal would prove to be all the Tigers would need to notch the victory as redshirt-freshman Amanda McNab (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and the Tigers' defense picked up their third shutout of the year with McNab notching four saves on all four of the Dons' shots.

Pacific will continue its three game road trip with on Friday, October 3 with a trip to UC Irvine for the start of Big West Conference play. The Tigers and the Anteaters will kickoff at 5:00 pm.
