Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team earned their first Big West win of the season on April 5 with a 7-0 sweep over Cal State Fullerton at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts in Stockton, Calif. With the win, the Tigers improved to 5-10 on the year and to 1-3 in Big West conference play, while the Titans fell to 2-14 on the year overall and are now 0-6 in Big West action.
Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) and Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) won the first match of the day as they defeated Cal State Fullerton's Brandy Andrews and Lani Agsalud at the No. 3 doubles position 8-1. Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) and Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) also earned a doubles victory on the afternoon as they won at the No. 1 doubles position, while Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) and Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) won at the No. 2 spot.
The Tigers earned a clean sweep over the Titans in singles play as well as each of the six matches were decided in straight sets. Twarowska, Arens, and Fisher each won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 positions on the afternoon, while Nezhura, Gumenyuk, and Schuhmacher each won at the No. 3 through No. 5 positions.
The Tigers will next be in action on April 6, when they take on UC Irvine at 11:00 a.m. in Stockton, Calif. at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
