San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The Pacific Tigers women's tennis team fell to the Cal Poly Mustangs 5-2 Sunday March 9, 2008 at the Mustang Tennis Complex. With the loss, Pacific drops to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in Big West Conference Play.

The Mustangs swept doubles play and captured the doubles point to start the day. Tiger sophomores Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) and Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) partnered together at the No. 2 position pushing their doubles contest to two sets but were eventually defeated by Shannon Brady and Maria Melec 8-7, (7-4)

The Tigers earned singles victories at the No. 2 position behind sophomore Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) and at the No. 3 position where freshman Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) was triumphant. Arens captured her victory in three sets over Steffi Wong 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (8). Nezhura's win came in straight sets over Whitney Peterson 6-2, 6-4.

Freshman Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) both pushed their individual matches to three sets but ultimately fell to their Mustang opponents 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 , and 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 respectively.

Pacific returns to their home Hal Nelson Tennis courts to host Boise State Saturday March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
