With a doubles sweep and strong singles play the Pacific Tigers women's tennis team captured a 5-2 victory over the Eastern Washington Eagles Wednesday March 26, 2008. The first victory the Tigers have ensnared this year on their home Hal Nelson Tennis Courts lifted them to 4-9 on the season.
Pacific struck first in the match with Twarowska/Gumenyuk defeating Knox/Mankovits 8-1 at number one doubles. The Tigers then secured the doubles point following Schuhmacher/Nezhura's 8-6 victory over Berger/Dolack at the number three position. Pacific then went on to sweep doubles play with Arens/Fisher picking up a 8-5 decision over Leuenberger/Demerath.
The Tigers were victorious in four of six singles matches including the top three positions and the number five positon. Junior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany), sophomore Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) and Freshman Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) all picked up victories in straight sets at the number one, two and three positions respectively with Twarowska's victory securing the overall team victory.
Pacific sophomore Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) added a victory to her stat sheet with a win at the number five position, and sophomore Amber Abdallah (Lodi, Calif.) saw her first action in a Tigers jersey but ultimately fell at the number six position 6-1, 6-1.
The Tigers return to the courts Sunday March 30th when they travel to Reno, Nev. to take on the Nevada Wolfpack at 12:00pm.
