Pacific Sets School Record For Steals in Win At Pepperdine, 73-55

Malibu, Calif. - Behind a school-record 17 steals, the Pacific men's basketball team defeated Pepperdine on Saturday, December 13 in Malibu, Calif. The Tigers improved to 5-3 with the victory, while the Waves fell to 1-7.

After falling behind 5-2 on a three-pointer by Pepperdine's Mike Hornbuckle, the Tigers outscored the Waves 19-7 over the next six minutes to take a 21-12 lead. Pepperdine then cut the lead to 22-17, before Pacific surged back ahead by 12 with a 12-5 run keyed by four points from sophomore Sam Willard (Pierre, S.D.) to take a 30. The Tigers would not score again in the first half, as the Waves ended the half on a 6-0 run to trim the Pacific lead to 34-28 at the break.

The Tigers opened up the second half with a 18-5 run, with senior Chad Troyer (Seattle, Wash.) scoring seven points in the run to give Pacific a 52-33 lead with 13:23 remaining. The Waves cut the lead back to six, the Tigers again surged ahead to take a 60-38 lead with 11:05 remaining after five points in a row from senior Anthony Brown (Sacramento, Calif.). The lead did not fall below 16 points the rest of the way as the Tigers cruised to the victory.

Troyer led the Tigers with a season-high 17 points, hitting three three-pointers. Senior James Doran (Cameron Park, Calif.) added 12 points while junior Joe Ford (Altadena, Calif.) had 11 points and tied his career high with four steals. Willard had 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers on the boards. Junior Lavar Neufville (Fairfield, Calif.) had a career-high five steals,

The Tigers are next in action on Saturday, December 20 with a home game against Santa Clara. The tip is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
