Long Beach, Calif. - In the third and final day of the 2008 Nike Cup hosted by UC Irvine, the Pacific men's and women's teams both finished in sixth place. The women recorded 559.5 overall points in a field of 21 teams while the mean secured 477.5 out of 14 universities on Nov. 22.

The women beat out Big West Conference competition UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge, while the men topped Cal State Northridge and avenged its loss to Cal State Bakersfield from earlier in the month, finishing ahead of the Roadrunners.

For both the men's and women's fields of competition, Pacific swimmers combined for 10 top 10 finishes, the highest of which recorded in the 200 Back when senior Jun Huang (Guangzhou, China) was the second swimmer of 89 swimmers to touch the wall in 2:00.22. Her second-place touch was less than one second behind the event's winner, Candace Smith, who was a part of the BYU team to win the entire meet.

Pacific's second-highest finish was one spot below, as KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah) endured a third-place finish in the mile race. She swam the 1650 Free with a time of 17.10.33. In the same race for the men, two Tigers touched the wall in the top 10. Senior Matt Lundy (Lafayette, Colo.) and Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljubljana, Slovenia) turned in a sixth and eighth place finish, respectively, when they swam the 1650 Free in 15:51.87 and 16:02.45.

Beyond the top three finishes, Pacific rounded out its top five event results when senior Jenny Lewis (Hesperia, Calif.) nearly missed out in a third-place finish. Lewis, who won the 50 Free, finished the 100 Free with a time of 51.02. She just missed third, which was set by a mark of 50.87 by Lauren Mar from second-place San Jose State.

And in relay action yet again, Pacific turned in two top-10 finishes in the 400 Free Relay. Quinn, senior Michael Kasten (Livermore, Calif.), sophomore Dave Mathews (Dublin, Ireland) and senior Justin Canty (El Cajon, Calif.) collectively put up a 3:08.41 time for a sixth-place finish. The women, on the other hand, rounded out the top 10 when Lewis, junior Devonie Migues (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Abiston and junior Brooke Cashion (Irvine, Calif.) finished 10th iwth a time of 3:34.61.

Both Pacific men's and women's teams return to dual meet action on Jan. 10, 2009 at Stanford.
