Irvine, Calif. - Playing their first Big West Conference game of the year, the Pacific women's soccer team notched its first conference of the season, 1-0, over UC Irvine on Friday, October 3. The win moved the Tigers to 6-4-0 on the year and 1-0-0 in conference action while the Anteaters dropped to 6-6-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Big West play.
Senior Laura King (Livermore, Calif.) scored her first goal of the season for the Tigers, notching an unassisted strike in the fourth minute of play to lead the Tigers to the win.
Setting the pace of the contest early, the Tigers went on the attack from the outset, setting up numerous early opportunities that ended with the early goal. Playing the ball into the box from the left side, King took advantage of faulty clearance by the Anteaters' defense to post the lone goal of the contest.
After trapping the clearance attempt at the top of the 18, King fired a shot past the outstretched dive of Danielle de Seriere in goal to notch her first goal and her fourth points of the year.
For the second consecutive game, Pacific made its early goal stand with strong defense and timely saves by redshirt-freshman Amanda McNab (Laguna Niguel, Calif.). Throughout the game, McNab came up big for the Tigers, posting three saves through 90:00 minutes of play. Twice McNab came up with 1v1 saves against the Anteaters.
Both Pacific and UC Irvine posted eight shots on the night with each team posting three shots on goal. Junior Lydia Jackson (El Cajon, Calif.) posted two shots throughout the night, nearly missing an insurance goal for the Tigers in the 84th minute of play, bending a shot just high and wide of the top corner of the net.
Pacific is now 9-3-1 in Big West Conference openers, snapping a three game losing streak in openers.
The Tigers will continue their two game road trip with a contest at Long Beach State on Sunday, October 5. The game is scheduled for 12:00 pm,
