Box Score

Bakersfield, Calif. - Looking to end their recent run of bad luck, the Pacific soccer team got back on track with a 2-1, overtime, victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, October 26. The out of conference win for the Tigers (9-7-1) ensured that Pacific would post a winning record on the year for the 13th time in the Head Coach Keith Coleman's 15 seasons. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 5-12-1 on the year.

Playing their final out of conference game just one week before closing out the 2008 regular season against UC Davis, the Tigers needed to get back on track after dropping their last two contests. With a sense of urgency, the Tigers went on the attack from the outset of the contest, holding a 24-7 shot advantage through out the game.

However, it was Cal State Bakersfield that got on the board first as the Roadrunners were able to capitalize on a gifted goal from the penalty spot just 27:27 into the contest. Awarded the free shot on goal, Alexa Vickroy made good on the Roadrunners' only threat of the afternoon, beating redshirt sophomore Jill Medigovich (San Diego, Calif.) who made her first career start for the Tigers in goal. For the game, Medigovich made two saves while picking up her first win of the year for Pacific.

Despite the early goal deficit the Tigers were unfazed as they continued their attack, culminating in their first goal of the game in the 58th minute of play. Pushed into attack for the first time in three contests, freshman Laura Hogan (Poway, Calif.) made good on her offensive freedom, firing in her fourth goal of the season off a rebounded shot from freshman Angelica Figuroa (Linden, Calif.). The assist, credited to Figueroa after the blocked shot, marked her third assist of the year.

With a 15-4 shot advantage in the second half, the Tigers appeared as if they would be able to finish off their comeback in regulation, but were denied the chance by Marin Constantinou who came up with three of her six saves in the second half of play.

Facing a golden-goal situation and needing another 10 minutes to decide a victor, Pacific found its winning way with just under three minutes to play in the overtime period as Hogan struck again for her third career game-winning goal. With a long ball played deep into the Roadrunners territory by sophomore Kylee Ah Choy (Mililani, Hawaii ), Hogan found herself in a 1v1 situation with Constantinou with the game at her foot. Not to be denied, Hogan slotted her shot past Constantinou and inside the right post, giving the Tigers the win with her second career multi-goal game.

The Tigers close out the 2008 regular season on Sunday, November 2, when they play host to UC Davis in the finale of Big West play. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 pm with a special senior ceremony honoring senior Laura King (Livermore, Calif.) to take place just prior to game time.
