Tigers Swept by Cal State Fullerton, 3-0

Fullerton, Calif. - The Pacific women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Oct. 17.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 5-10 on the season and 5-2 in the Big West Conference, while Cal State Fullerton moved to 11-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Set scores for the match were: 25-16, 25-21, 25-22

The Tigers struggled from the outset to find their rhythm. Leading 9-8 in the first set, Pacific allowed Cal State Fullerton to score eight of the next nine points, taking a 16-10 lead. The Titans went on to take the first set easily, 25-16, posting an astounding .556 hitting percentage (17 kills and only two errors on 27 attempts).

The second set was much closer as the two teams forged through 12 ties, the last coming at 19-19. With the set on the line, Cal State Fullerton senior Brittany Moore delivered three kills to lead a four-point Titan surge that left Cal State Fullerton in front 23-19. The result was a 25-21 set victory for the Titans.

Pacific get its best effort in the third set, earning separation from Cal State Fullerton at 6-2 and 21-18 lead. Unfortunately, the Titans had one final rush to make. Cal State Fullerton scored the next six points of the set on three Pacific errros, two kills by Moore and a kill from Sydney McDowell to earn a 24-21 lead. The Titans went on to take the set and the match, 25-22.

Junior Mallori Gibson (Bakersfield, Calif.) led Pacific with 11 kills in the match.

Cal State Fullerton had three players finish with double-digit kills, a match-high 15 from Moore, 12 by Erin Sadler and 12 from McDowell.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 as Pacific travels to Northridge, Calif. to take on the Cal State Northridge Matadors at 7 p.m. in the Matadome.
