Pacific Falls 3-0 at Colorado State

Fort Collins, Col. - The Pacific women's volleyball team fell to 1-2 on the season with a 3-0 loss at Colorado State on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Rams improved to 2-3 with the 30-26, 30-23, 30-27 victory.

After several early ties in game one, Colorado State was able to take a 16-15 lead, and would not trail again. The Rams led the rest of the way, using a 10-5 run from the 15-15 tie to take a 25-20 lead. Pacific did post a late rally, cutting the Rams' lead to 27-25 on a block by junior Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) and sophomore Masha Vaysburg (Livermore, Calif.). Colorado State scored three of the next four points to finish off the first game. Anderson led the Tigers with eight kills in game one.

In game two, the Rams out-hit Pacific .371-.023, as the Tigers had 13 kills with 12 errors. Included in those 12 errors were seven blocks by the Rams. Colorado State led from the first serve in game two, leading by as many as 13 before the Tigers cute the final margin to seven. The Tigers used the middle a bit more in game two, as senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) and Vaysburg combined for six of the team's 13 kills.

Game three was the tightest of the match, with the Tigers leading as late as 24-23, but the Rams scored on two kills by Mekana Barnes to close out the match. Junior Kara Uhl (Cypress, Calif.), sophomore Meagan MimMack (Upland, Calif.) and Hilbers each had four kills for the Tigers in game three. They teamed with Anderson to lead the team with 10 kills each. MimMack added five blocks.

Barnes led the Rams with 16 kills and six blocks.

Pacific is next in action at the Nike Portland Tournament with a match against UTEP on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5:00 p.m.
