Sacramento, Calif. - Pacific baseball signee, Tyler Waldron, was Named the 2007 All-Metro Player of the Year by the Sacramento Bee on Tuesday, June 19.
Waldron is a 6'2 right-handed pitcher from Golden Sierra High School in Garden Valley, Calif. Waldron was a force both on the mound and at the plate this season as he posted an 11-0 record and led the Sacramento area with a 0.65 ERA in 2007. Tyler also struck out 151 batters in 76 innings. At the plate, Waldron finished second in the area with a stellar .530 batting average and delivered 41 RBIs. Even more impressive was that Waldron struck out only once in 83 at-bats.
During his junior season, Waldron led Golden Sierra to a Division IV runner-up finish in the Sac-San Joaquin Section. He finished with a 7-2 record with a 1.13 ERA. He struck out 110 hitters in just 56 innings of work. At the plate, Waldron hit .537 with two home runs and 22 RBI.
In his four-year career at Golden Sierra, Waldron finished with a combined 25-4 record, including 373 strikeouts in 206 innings. Offensively, Waldron finished with a combined .428 average and 108 RBI.
During the MLB Amateur Draft on June 8, Waldron was selected in the 38th round by the Florida Marlins. The window Waldron will have to sign with the Marlins is relatively short due to a new NCAA rule that requires all draft picks must sign by Aug. 15. In previous years, players who went to junior college or simply did not return to school were eligible to sign with the team that drafted them until a week before the next year's draft.
