Rancho Santa Margarita, California -
Senior Thomas Petersson finished in fourth place in his last college tournament and only fittingly he led Pacific once again, this time to a third place finish in the Big West Championship. Behind consistent golf throughout the week the Tigers shot rounds of 292, 292 and 287 at the conference tournament.
Petersson carded a final round 70 at the 6,918-yard Tijeras Creek Golf Club, finishing with a 54-hole score of 213. Junior Chris Rosenau shot a 217 and A.J. Hohn posted a final-round even par to end at 219. Freshman Bayhaan Lakdawala carded a final-round 70, the lowest round of his career, while sophomore Charlie Van Sicklen entered the clubhouse at 232.
"This is a great finish for this program. To come into the Big West Championship, shoot under-par in the final round and finish third overall is something I'm extremely happy about," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "This team has come a long way in two years. I'm also very proud of Thomas for ending his career at Pacific on a high note with a fourth place finish. I really look forward to next season."
UC Irvine took the team title, shooting -11 over the two day tournament and Cal Poly closed close on their heels with a -9 showing. Individually Long Beach State's Brett Lederer finished with a 204, -12.
The Tigers' seeded fifth in the tournament took third place, a vast improvement over last season's squad of virtually the same players that finished fifth.
