Tigers Shoot Record Round of -10 at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

April 2, 2007

Santa Barbara, California - Behind a career-low 65 from junior Chris Rosenau the Pacific golf team shot a record 10-under par in the opening round of the Ogio Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Monday, April 2. The Tigers' round of 278 was the lowest round for Pacific golf since 2001 and the first under-par round for the Tigers since Brandon Goethals took over as head coach in 2005.

Rosenau's seven-under par led Pacific to an opening round 278 and kept them in the hunt with a second round 290. The Tigers are currently tied for seventh at the 6,830-yard, par 72 course. Rosenau's second round 71 left him tied for 3rd place after day one.

"This is a huge step for our program," said Goethals. "Shooting ten under par at this point in the process for our team is a great achievement. It's also a bright spot and puts a smile on my face to see that we can compete at this level."

Senior Thomas Petersson shot a three-under 70-71 to sit in a tie for 28th while junior A.J. Hohn posted rounds of 72 and 73. Freshman Patrick Kucich is in 64th with rounds of 71 and 76 while sophomore Charlie Van Sicklen carded a 74-75.

The Tigers, taking advantage of perfect conditions in the valley course, all contributed to Pacific's best one-round total in six years. The last time the Tigers shot double-digits under par was on November 5th, 2001 at The Prestige. Rosenau's 65 came as a career-low as did Kucich's 71.

Pacific tees off Tuesday morning at 7:30 for a final 18-holes of the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.
