Tigers Down UC Davis 5-2

April 18, 2007

Davis, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team improved to 8-12 on the season with a 5-2 victory over UC Davis (10-11) at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Wednesday, April 18th.

The match between the two evenly contested teams began to resemble more of a marathon than a tennis match as, after a closely contested doubles point went the way of the Tigers, four of the six singles matches went to three sets.

At No. 1 singles, senior Vana Mrazovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro) fought back from a 2-6 loss in game one to defeat Desiree Stone 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) withstood a tough fight from the Aggies Herzyl Legaspi at No. 2 singles, pulling out a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) decision. Legaspi held match point before Twarowska staged a comeback in the tiebreaker to seal the victory 9-7.

The Aggies put up a fight, winning the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions, but could not recover enough points to win as Pacific sophomores Carla Tamborini (Arcadia, Calif.) and Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) posted victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

The Tigers return to action at Fresno State on Saturday, April 21st at 5pm.
