Irvine, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team opened up Big West Conference play with a 5-2 loss at the hands of No. 43 UC Irvine on Saturday, February 24. With the loss the Tigers fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action while the Anteaters improved to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big West.

The Tigers found themselves down an early point as the Anteaters were able to capture the doubles point with wins at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The lone win came at the hands of senior Vana Mrazovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro) and freshman Svenja Arens (Bensburg, Germany) who teamed for an 8-4 win at the No. 2 spot.

The duo continued their winning ways in the singles events as both won their matches with Mrazovic winning a straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, decision over Becky Bernhard at the No. 1 position. Arens needed three a tie-breaker to come away with the point as she captured a 6-4, 4-6 (10-8) win over Clare Fermin at No. 3 singles.

The Tigers will next be in action on Sunday, February 25 as they head over to Cal State Fullerton to take on the Titans in Big West Conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
