Pacific Holds Off UC Davis, 65-58

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team used a late rally to defeat UC Davis 65-58 on Monday, Feb. 19 at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The Tigers are now 11-14 overall, while the Aggies are 4-20.

Despite shooting 54.2% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, the Tigers were down 31-30 at halftime. Pacific used a 10-0 run to take a 21-11 lead midway through the first half, but the Aggies used a methodical 20-9 run over the final 10 minutes to claim the lead at the break. Senior Wolfgang Raffety (Placerville, Calif.) scored a career-high 11 points in the first half to lead the Tigers.

In the second half, the Tigers found themselves down 50-44 with 7:39 left in the game. Pacific then used a 10-0 run to take a 54-50 lead, and would not trail again. Sophomore Steffan Johnson (Kent, Wash.) hit six of eight free throws in the final four minutes of the game as the Tigers hit 9-of-12 down the stretch. After scoring just 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Tigers outscored UC Davis 21-8 over the last 7:30 of the game.

Raffety ended up with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field to pace the Tigers. Johnson added 10 points off the bench, as Pacific reserves scored 33 of the team's 65 points.

The Tigers shot 51.3% for the game, the fourth straight game that the Tigers have been over 50.0% from the field.

The Tigers are next in action at Cal State Northridge on Saturday, Feb. 24. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
