Houston, Texas -
The Pacific golf team fired scores of 298 and 311 to sit just three strokes off the lead after day one of the Rice Intercollegiate. Senior Thomas Petersson once again paved the way for the Tigers, shooting an even-par 144 for a second place standing.
Blustery winds and a long Westwood Golf Course couldn't stop the Tigers as they battled their way to a third place after 36-holes of the seventh annual Rice hosted event. Only Harrison Moore of College of Charleston shot a better one-day score than Petersson. Moore carded a one-under 143 while Sam Houston State took the team lead with rounds of 296 and 310.
Junior Chris Rosenau is in 10th place after shooting a 76-75 and sophomore Charlie Van Sicklen is tied for 34th with an opening round 73 and second round 84. Freshman Patrick Kucich fired a 78-82 and junior A.J. Hohn is in 59th with a 163.
"Our goal this week was to just go out and play and not worry about results," said coach Brandon Goethals. "We are just flat-out playing and fighting for every shot. You never know what's going to be a good score and we want to make sure that every shot matters this week.
