Pacific Defeats Fresno State, 3-0, Advances to Face Cincinnati on Saturday in Bankers Classic Championship

Stockton, Calif. - Led by a double-double from junior Kara Uhl (Cypress, Calif.) the Pacific women's volleyball team defeated Fresno State, 3-0, on Friday, Nov. 23 in a first round match at the 29th Annual Bankers Classic.

The win lifted the Tigers to 17-9 on the season, while Fresno State fell to 5-25 overall.

Game scores for the match were: 30-26, 30-16, 30-22.

In the first game the Tigers battled back from a 22-16 deficit as Pacific outscored Fresno State 14-4 down the stretch to take game one, 30-26. Sophomore Masha Vaysburg (Livermore, Calif.) got the Tiger comeback started with her second kill of the night. Sophomore Dancyne Kama (Hilo, Hawaii) followed with her only kill of the night to make it 22-18. Senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) delivered an ace on the next serve to force a Fresno State timeout. Following the break the Tigers got back-to-back kills from Uhl to pull within one point at 23-22. Junior Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) and sophomore Natalia Tomaszewska (Marklowice, Poland) added two kills each and Vaysburg closed the game with her third kill.

Pacific's momentum from game their game one comeback victory, carried over into game two as the Tigers raced out to an early 11-4 lead. Moments later with the Tigers leading 14-8, Hilbers went back to the service line and extended the Tigers lead to 20-8 behind two Fresno State errors, back-to-back kills by Vaysburg, then capped by consecutive aces from Hilbers. Pacific went on for the easy 30-16 game two win. The Tigers hit a game-high .324 in the second frame with 16 kills and five errors on 34 attempts. Fresno State, meanwhile, hit just .034 with seven kills and six errors on 29 swings.

Pacific built another quick lead in the third game with nine of the first 10 points. Although the Bulldogs got as close as two points at 19-17, the Tigers never relinquished the lead, going on to take the match, 30-22.

Uhl's 13 kills led all attackers, while Tomaszewska finished with 10 kills. Uhl also collected a career-high six aces.

Lacey Gera led Fresno State with seven kills.

Pacific will conclude their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 24 as the Tigers take on Cincinnati at 7 p.m. in the Bankers Classic Championship match. Before that Tigers and Bearcats battle, Fresno State will face Saint Mary's in the consolation match at 5 p.m.
