Pacific Men's Basketball Wins at UC Davis

Davis, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team fought off an early nine-point deficit to earn a 79-71 victory at UC Davis on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Tigers are now 6-11, while UC Davis falls to 4-13.

The Tigers fell behind 11-2 to start the game, but outscored the Aggies 36-11 the rest of the first half. Pacific held UC Davis to just one field goal over the final 15:30 of the first half to take a 38-22 halftime lead.

Pacific was able to get its lead up to 21 (58-37) with 11:29 remaining in the game, but the Aggies went on a furious 26-9 run over the next nine minutes to cut the lead to just 67-63 2:38 left in the game.

Both teams shot very well from the free throw line, with the Aggies hitting 22 of 24 attempts (91.7%) and the Tigers making 23 of 29 (79.3%). Pacific hit 12 of 20 shots from the field in the second half, while hitting 8-of-13 three-pointers in the game.

Junior Solomon Horsechief (Muskogee, Okla.) scored a career-high 18 points and tied a career mark with six assists in the victory. He was 9-of-10 from the free throw line and hit all six of his attempts in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

Sophomore Anthony Brown (Sacramento, Calif.) scored 19 points, while seniors Michael White (Capitola, Calif.) and Reggie Vezia (Vacaville, Calif.) added 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Brown and White combined to make 12 of 17 shots from the field.

Vince Oliver scored 22 points to lead the Aggies.

The Tigers return to the Alex G. Spanos Center for a home game on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
