STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team fell to 5-11 overall and 2-2 in Big West Conference action with a 67-42 loss to UC Irvine (8-10, 2-2 Big West) on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
The Anteaters handed the Tigers their worst Big West Conference loss since 1990 and worst home loss since 1988. It was also just the second time in the last four years that the Tigers have suffered a home loss in Big West play.
The Tigers trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, but used an 11-4 run in the final 3:50 to trail by eight (34-26) at the break.
Pacific cut the lead to six on a steal and layup by senior Anthony Esparza (Bakersfield, Calif.) to start the second half, but a 17-4 UC Irvine run took the Anteater lead to 19 (51-32) with 11:39 to play. The Anteaters' lead would not fall below 17 the rest of the way as UC Irvine cruised to the victory.
Anthony Brown had 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds for Pacific.
Pacific shot a season-low 25.0% from the field, hitting just 13 of its 52 shots. UC Irvine shot 54.3% from the field, including 65.0% in the second half.
The Tigers are next in action at UC Davis on Jan. 20. Game time is 2:00 p.m. for the Comcast SportsNet telecast.
