Pacific falters at Long Beach, 70-52

Long Beach, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team fell to Long Beach State, 70-52, on Thursday, Jan. 11.

With the loss the Tigers dropped to 7-10 on the season and 1-3 in the Big West Conference, while Long Beach State moved to 4-13 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half as the Tigers shot just 21% from the field (6-of-28), while Long Beach State shot 36% (11-of-31). The 49ers held a slim 13-10 lead with 11:31 remaining in the half. Over the next eight minutes, the Tigers were outscored 13-1 to fall behind, 26-11, with under four minutes in the half. Junior Kelsey Lavender's (Lake Oswego, Ore.) half court buzzer beater sent the Tigers into halftime down by twelve, 30-18.

Pacific's woes continued in the second half as the Tigers deficit grew to as much as 25 points on three occaisions.

Sophomore Karen Dawkins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led Pacific with 13 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Three other players finished in double figures as senior Jerise Freeman (Wichita, Kan.) finished with 12 points, while Lavender and freshman Jake Kelly (Sacramento, Calif.) each had 11 points.

Long Beach State's Karina Figueroa led all scorers with 23 points.

Pacific will return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 13 as the Tigers continue their two-game road trip at UC Irvine at 7 p.m.
