Pacific falls to Cal State Northridge, 3-0

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Cal State Northridge on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-11 on the season and 1-2 in the Big West Conference, while Cal State Northridge moved to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Game scores for the match were: 30-25, 30-25, 30-8.

The Tigers stumbled out of the gate in the first game, dropping 12 of the first 16 points. The Pacific deficit grew to as much as ten points at 21-11, before the Tigers staged a fierce late rally to get within three points at 25-22. Pacific's defense keyed their run as the Tigers scored four points on blocks. Cal State Northridge, however, got two key kills down the stretch from Angela Hupp to take game one, 30-25.

The late momentum built by the Tigers in the first game carried over to game two as Pacific gave its best performance of the match. The Tigers forced 12 ties and four lead changes in game two. The final tie came at 21-21 on a kill by junior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.). Unfortunately the Matadors rose to the challenge for a second time, scoring nine of the final 13 points. Harmony Burdine keyed the late Cal State Northridge rally with back-to-back aces, lifting the Matadors to a 23-21 lead. Cal State Northridge went on to take game two 30-25.

Three Tigers finished with five kills to lead the team, Hilbers, sophomore Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) and sophomore Natalia Tomaszewska (Marklowice, Poland). Redshirt freshman Meagan MimMack (Upland, Calif.) led Pacific defensively with five block assists in the match.

Cal State Northridge's Val Kepler led all attackers with 12 kills.

Pacific will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 5 in Davis, Calif. against the UC Davis Aggies at 7 p.m.
