Stockton, Calif. - Behind her conference leading fifth goal of the season, junior Mandi Van Dorn (Danville, Calif.) and the Pacific women's soccer team downed the San Francisco Dons, 2-1, on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The win moved the Tigers to 8-1-1 on the season while the Dons fell to 4-6-1.
Despite a slow start, the Tigers' offense continued their impressive run of late, notching two goals in the second half of the game to secure the win. The Tigers opened the scoring in the 60th minute of the contest as sophomore Andrea Carrara (Belmont, Calif.) scored her first collegiate goal. Carrara dove through the Don's defense, heading in the score off of sophomore Laura King's (Livermore, Calif.) cross.
Up one, the Tigers' and the conference's leading scorer struck for the third time in two games as Van Dorn took a pass in front of San Francisco's net and slotted home what would be the game winning goal. Van Dorn's score was set up by freshman Alysse Valenzuela (Stockton, Calif.). It is her second assist of the season.
The Don's did crack the Tigers' defense in the 77th minute, however, closing to within one goal. Chelsea Hunt found herself free bhind the defense off of a two pass combo from Lauren Tweet and Samantha Brand.
On the night both teams posted 13 shots while junior Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) tallied four saves to Katie Hodgson's three.
The Tigers start Big West Conference action on Friday, Sept. 29 as they travel to Long Beach to take on the 49ers. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
