Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers women's tennis concluded its season with a 4-1 loss to Cal Poly in the opening round of the Big West Championships on Friday, Apr. 28.

With the loss, the Tigers finished an injury plagued 2006 season at 9-12, while Cal Poly moved to 12-9 on the season. The Mustangs advance to face No. 2 UC Irvine in the semi-finals on Saturday, Apr. 29.

Playing in her final match as a Tiger, senior Natalia Kostenko (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) led the Tigers to the first point of the match as she and freshman Carla Tamborini (Arcadia, Calif.) won the No. 2 doubles position, 8-5 over Cal Poly's Beatty and Lewis. Later the Tigers took the doubles point as junior Vana Mrazovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) and freshman Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) defeated Waller and Erickson, 8-5.

The Tigers, however, could not sustain the momentum in the singles draw as Cal Poly claimed all four singles matches that were completed to win the match, 4-1.

Kostenko concludes her four-year career with the Pacific record for singles victories at 94 wins.
