Tiger Golfers Drop Match Play With Georgia Tech

March 24, 2006

Santa Cruz, Calif. -

The Pacific golf team fell 7-1 in a dual match with fourth ranked Georgia Tech on Friday, March 24 at Pasatiempo Golf Club. Sophomore Chris Rosenau picked up the lone victory for the Tigers, winning 2-1.

Of the eight players matched up against the Yellow Jackets, while Rosenau picked up the only win, both senior Gordian Curtius and junior Reid Scarff battled through rainy conditions to lose one up. Curtius and Scarff fell on 18, a downhill par-3 over a ravine with only hints of twilight remaining. The two squinted their ways to bogeys while their Georgia Tech counterparts picked up pars for their own individual one-hole victories.

Rosenau came to 16 up a single stroke but extended that lead to two after rolling in a clutch putt to give him a two-hole lead with two holes to play.

In other match-ups, freshman Adam Beckman fell 2-1, Charles Van Sicklen lost 6-5 and Thomas Petersson, playing the number one spot for the Tigers, fell 4-3. Brett Giurlani lost 4-2 and A.J. Hohn fell 4-3 in his match-up.

"It was a great experience for our guys, (playing against a nationally ranked team) said head coach Brandon Goethals. "It was a high pressure match-up against a team that is one of the best in the nation every year. We lost 7-1 but we had some very close matches that went down to the wire and we're going to keep up this level of intensity in the coming weeks."

The Tigers leave early Saturday, March 25th, for the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Oregon on March 27-28. The Monday-Tuesday event is held at the Shadow Hills Country Club.
