Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to the University of Idaho, 5-2, on Saturday, March 18. With the loss the Tigers dropped to 9-6 overall on the season.
Injuries to their top two players, forced the Tigers to play shorthanded with only five players against the Vandals.
Pacific nearly pulled off the improbable in the doubles matches, winning one of the two top doubles positions before defaulting the No. 3 doubles position. The tandem of sophomore Helen Schneider (Dernbach, Germany) and freshman Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) took the No. 2 doubles position for Pacific, defeating Kareen Konishi and Efrat Leopold, 8-4.
Down a point and their top two singles players, the Tigers were able to muster wins in two singles positions despite playing two spots out of position and defaulting the No. 6 singles position to the Vandals. Once again the duo of Schuhmacher and Schneider came through for the Tigers, both picking up wins in singles action. Schuhmacher took the No. 3 singles point, defeating Leopold, 6-1, 6-1, while Schneider took the No. 4 singles point, defeating Lauren Schrubb, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5).
The Tigers will next be in action tomorrow, Sunday, March 19, as they play host to Boise State at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm.
