Pacific tops Cal State Fullerton, 67-62

Fullerton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's basketball team captured their sixth consecutive victory, 67-62, over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Feb. 9.

With the win, Pacific moved to 17-6 on the season and 7-2 in the Big West Conference. Cal State Fullerton, meanwhile, fell to 10-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Trailing 56-54 with 3:53 remaining in the game, the Tigers turned to seniors Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) and Johnny Gray (Agoura Hills, Calif.). The senior duo responded by outscoring Cal State Fullerton 9-2 over the next two and a half minutes to give the Tigers a 63-58 lead with 1:15 left.

Following a bucket by Cal State Fullerton, junior Michael White (Capitola, Calif.) sank his only shot of the night, a 15-footer as the shot clock expired to push the Pacific lead back to five at 65-60 with under 10 seconds to play.

Pacific led by as much as 12 points in the first half at 32-20 with 1:40 left in the half. The Titans, however, would not quit as Cal State Fullerton closed the half on a 7-2 run to cut the Tigers' lead to 34-27 at the break.

Maraker led all scorers with 25 points, while Gray finished with 18. Maraker also added 13 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season and 20th in his career.

Jamaal Brown led Cal State Fullerton with 17 points.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 as Pacific takes on UC Riverside at 4:05 p.m.
