Sacramento, Calif. - Sacramento State's Haron Hargrave hit a 3-point shot with 0.4 seconds left in overtime to give the Hornets a 74-72 victory over Pacific on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-5 on the season, while Sacramento State moved to 5-5.
Trailing 62-57 with just 48 seconds remaining in regulation, the Tigers rallied to force overtime on the heroics of freshman C.J. Morgan (Sacramento, Calif.). The Pacific freshman brought the Tigers within a bucket at 62-60 on a three pointer with 39 remaining in regulation. After the Hornets pushed the lead to three on one of two free throws from Roderick Adams, the Tigers got the ball back with 10 seconds remaining. Once again, Morgan nailed a trey to tie the game and send it to overtime.
In the extra period the Tigers took the lead in the opening seconds as sophomore Anthony Brown (Sacramento, Calif.) hit one of two free throws to give the Tigers a 64-63 lead. Pacific led by as many as three points on three different occasions and did not surrender the lead until the final basket.
Morgan finished with a game-high 24 points, while sophomore Steffan Johnson (Kent, Wash.) finished with 11 points and 10 assists for his first career double-double.
Hargrave had 18 points and Angel Alamo added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Hornets, who stopped an 11-game losing streak against the Tigers.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 9 as Pacific hosts Santa Clara at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
