Pacific Holds Off San Francisco, 79-72

STOCKTON, Calif. - Sophomore Steffan Johnson poured in a career-high 23 points to lead the Pacific men's basketball team (3-3) to a 79-72 non-conference victory over San Francisco (3-4) on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The Tigers jumped out to a 26-13 lead after the first 11 minutes of the game, behind 13 points from Johnson. USF roared back with a 13-2 run over the next eight minutes to cut the Tiger lead 28-26 with 2:25 left in the first half. Pacific went into the break with a 34-29 lead.

In the second half, the Tigers took the lead back up to 11 (52-41) with 12:06 on a layup by Johnson. USF came back again, cutting the Tiger lead to four (58-54) with 5:52 left in the game. The Tigers responded with an 8-1 run over the next two minutes to take a 66-55 lead and would not lead by less than seven the rest of the way. Tiger senior Michael White (Capitola, Calif.) scored six of his points in the 8-1 run to help the Tigers earn the victory.

Sophomore Anthony Brown (Sacramento, Calif.) scored 13 points while senior Anthony Esparza added 11 points for the Tigers. Brown and Esparza each added a game-high eight rebounds as Pacific out-rebounded the Dons 32-22.

Both teams hit over half of their shots in the game, but Pacific hit 12 of 20 second half attempts (.600).

Armondo Surratt led the Dons with 16 points.
