Stockton, Calif. - Playing their final game of the 2006 season, the Pacific women's soccer team suffered a 1-0, overtime, loss to UC Davis on Sunday, October 29. The loss dropped the Tigers to 10-6-2 overall while the Aggies completed their season at 9-6-2.
Playing a position down for the final 49 minutes of the game, the Tigers held tough defensively throughout regulation, holding the Aggies to six shots through the first 90 minutes of action. However, UC Davis was able to push through the defenses 1:18 into the extra time to notch the game-winner. Katie Snyder bent a shot from 30 yards out that forced junior Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) to make a diving save to her left. Off the deflected save, Dayna Dumont collected the rebound and placed the winning strike into the back of the net. On the day, Souza made five saves in goal for the Tigers.
The game played out with neither team being able to hold an advantage offensively as the teams traded shots and counter attacks throughout regulation. The Tigers held the advantage in total shots, outshooting the Aggies 9-8 overall and 9-6 in regulation, led by junior Mandi Van Dorn (Danville, Calif.) who tallied three shots on the day.
The Tigers were forced to play 10-on-11 for most of the game as senior Carmen Padilla (San Jose, Calif.) was sent off in the 43rd minute during a scuffle with an opposing player. Padilla took two shots before exiting the game in the first half.
The loss marked the third consecutive year in which the Aggies defeated the Tigers by the score of 1-0 in the final game of the regular season.
