Box Score

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team closed out Big West Conference play with a 0-0 draw at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, October 22. The draw moved the Tigers to 10-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference action while the Gauchos moved to 6-6-5 overall and 4-1-1 in Big West play.

Despite playing without five key players and three starters, the Tigers held tough in their final Big West conference game, playing one of their best defensive games of the season on the road at UC Santa Barbara. Pacific cleared out a season-high 14 corner kicks while also clearing a ball from the goal line to record a team defensive save.

With her eighth shutout of the season junior 'keeper Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) moved into a tie for No. 3 all-time for single season shutouts in program history. Throughout the day, Souza posted 11 saves, marking her season high and the first time she has tallied double figure saves this season.

Overall, the Gauchos were credited with 26 shots to the Tigers' seven. Junior Mandi Van Dorn (Danville, Calif.) and sophomore Nicci Leon (Valencia, Calif.) each tallied three shots to lead the Tigers offensively. Van Dorn's best shot of the game came just two minutes into the contest as she dribbled through two Gaucho defenders and fired a shot past UC Santa Barbara's netminder only to see it hit the crossbar and deflect out of play.

The shutout ended the Gauchos' four-game conference winning streak.

Pacific will finish its 2006 campaign on Sunday, October 29, as they play host to UC Davis at Stagg Memorial Stadium. The contest is scheduled for 12:00 pm and will preceed the Tigers' senior ceremony as they honor five seniors in Catherine Betts, Kelsey Nagel, Carmen Padilla, Suzy Peterson and Jennifer Smiley.
