Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's volleyball team suffered its third straight defeat as the Tigers fell, 3-0, to UC Santa Barbara, on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The loss dropped Pacific to 6-14 on the season and 3-5 in the Big West Conference, while UC Santa Barbara moved to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Game scores for the match were: 30-24, 30-25, 30-22.
The action went back and forth through the middle of the first game as the two teams exchanged the lead three times and battled through five ties. The final of those ties came at 13-13 as Pacific junior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) hammered a cross-court kill to pull the Tigers even. Pacific surged ahead on the next two points on a UC Santa Barbara ball-handling error and a kill from sophomore Natalia Tomaszewska (Marklowice, Poland) to push Pacific to a 15-13 lead.
Following a media timeout, the Gauchos responded with eight consecutive points to gain control of game one with a 21-15 lead. Pacific was unable to recover in the game, drawing only as close as three points at 21-18, before falling 30-24.
The Gauchos led throughout games two and three as UC Santa Barbara out hit Pacific in both contests. The Gauchos took game two, 30-25, with a slim hitting advantage of .297 to .256. Game three saw the Gauchos out hit Pacific, .351 to .136 to earn a 30-22 win.
Pacific sophomore Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) led the Tigers with 13 kills and 17 digs to net her seventh double-double of the season.
UC Santa Barbara's Jamie Garbisch and Lauren McLaughlin each had 11 kills to pace the Gauchos.
Pacific will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 26 as the Tigers face Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. in Northridge, Calif.
