Pacific to Host UC Irvine and Long Beach State This Week

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific has won seven of the last nine games, heading into this week's action ... The Tigers are home for two television games against UC Irvine (Comcast SportsNet) and Long Beach (Fox Sports West 2).

RADIO: All Tiger basketball games are broadcast live on KSTN (1420 AM) in Stockton, ESPN Radio 970 AM in Modesto ... Mike Millerick calls the play-by-play ... Air time is 20 minutes before tip-off ... THE COACH: Former Pacific basketball standout Bob Thomason (Pacific '71) is 300-219 (.580) in his 18th season as head coach of his alma mater ... He has more Big West experience at his current school than any other coach in the Big West Conference ... After leading the Tigers to a 27-4 record in 2004-05, Thomason was named as a finalist for the CollegeInsider.com Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year award and received USBWA District 9 Coach of the Year honors ... Thomason is the second coach in Big West history to record 300 wins during Big West membership ... Jerry Tarkanian is first with 405 wins ... Pacific 65, UC Santa Barbara 53: Pacific gave head coach Bob Thomason career win No. 300, as the Tigers defeated UC Santa Barbara, 65-53, on Saturday, Jan. 28 ... With the win, Pacific moved to 14-6 on the season and 4-2 in the Big West Conference, while UC Santa Barbara fell to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play ... Pacific jumped out to an early 11-2 lead as seniors Johnny Gray (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) combined for eight points in the opening four minutes ... Pacific stretched its lead to as much as 14 points at 35-21 and held a 38-29 lead at the half ... UC Santa Barbara came out quickly in the second half, scoring the first 10 points of the half to take a 39-38 lead with 15:38 remaining in the game ... With the win the Tigers moved to 13-6 on the season and 3-2 in the Big West Conference, while Cal Poly dropped to 5-12 overall and 3-3 in conference play ... Pacific outscored the Mustangs 6-0 over the first four minutes of the game, as Pacific outscored the Mustangs 6-0 over the first four minutes of the game, as Cal Poly missed eight straight shots to start the game ... The Tigers never trailed in the first half, although the Mustangs used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 19-19 with 7:22 left in the half ... Pacific got the lead back up to six though, and led 33-27 at halftime ... In the second half, after the Mustangs cut Pacific's lead to 45-41 with 11:48 left in the game, the Tigers used an 11-0 run to increase the lead to 15 ... THOMASON GETS 300TH WIN AT PACIFIC: With the victory at UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 28th, Pacific head coach Bob Thomason coached his 300th win with the Tigers ... Thomason is the winningest coach in Pacific history, and is second on the Big West wins list.

TIGERS TO PLAY NEW MEXICO STATE ON FEB. 18: Pacific will face New Mexico State on Feb. 18 as a part of ESPN's Bracket Busters Saturday ... The game was not selected for television by ESPN ... The Tigers will host the Aggies in the Spanos Center, with a tipoff time to be determined at a later time ... New Mexico State, former member of the Big West, is 8-10 overall, 4-3 in the Western Athletic Conference.

THOMASON COACHES 500TH GAME AT PACIFIC IN SEASON OPENER: Pacific head coach Bob Thomason is in his 18th year at Pacific, and coached the 500th game of his career with the Tigers' 74-55 victory in the season opener against Sonoma State on Nov. 18.

MARAKER EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS YET AGAIN (DEC. 19): Pacific senior forward Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) was named Big West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 12-Dec. 18 ... It was his third straight honor ... Christian led the Tigers to a 99-63 victory on Dec. 17, scoring 24 points with eight rebounds and shot 70% from the field ... It was the fifth weekly honor of Maraker's career and the third this season (all in a row).

MARAKER EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS AGAIN (DEC. 12): Pacific senior forward Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) was named Big West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 5-Dec. 11 ... It was his second straight honor ... Christian set a career-high with 34 points against Western Kentucky on Saturday, hitting 14 of 20 shots from the field ... Maraker also had a career-high tying 12 rebounds to produce his second double-double of the week ... He scored 19 points in the first half, as the Tigers took an eight point halftime lead on the way to handing Western Kentucky just their third home loss in the last 21 games ... Against San Jose State on Wednesday, Christian scored 21 points, and had 10 rebounds ... He helped the Tigers pull away with 14 points in the second half ... For the week, Maraker shot 61.8% from the field and was a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line.

MARAKER EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS (DEC. 5): Pacific senior forward Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) was named Big West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4 ... In the Tigers' two games, Christian posted back-to-back double-doubles, tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Tigers' win over San Francisco and 21 and 10 in the Tigers' loss to No. 20 Nevada ... The double-doubles give Christian 12 for his career ... Over the two games, Maraker shot 44% from the field, averaging 17.5 points per game.

TIGERS HAVE THIRD FEWEST LOSSES IN NATION SINCE JAN. 1, 2004: In quite a remarkable run, Pacific has lost just 12 times in the last 71 games, going back to Jan. 1, 2004 ... In that span, the Tigers have the second fewest losses in the nation.

MARAKER AND GRAY EARN ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS AT HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND CLASSIC: Pacific seniors Johnny Gray (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) were selected to the All- Tournament Team at the Hispanic College Fund Classic on Nov. 22... Gray averaged 9.7 points and 3.7 assists per game, while Maraker averaged 17.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

DOUBLEY AND THOMASON EARN TOP 2004-05 BIG WEST CONFERENCE AWARDS: Pacific senior guard David Doubley (Oakland, Calif.) was named Big West Conference Player of the Year, while Tiger head coach Bob Thomason was named Big West Conference Coach of the Year when the conference's yearly awards were announced on Monday, March 7 ... It is the second consecutive year that Pacific has swept the top two awards ... Last year, Miah Davis and Thomason earned the top two awards ... Doubley, along with junior Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) and senior Guillaume Yango (Paris, France) were named to the All-Big West Conference First Team ... PACIFIC'S MARAKER SELECTED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE 2004-05 ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA TEAM: University of the Pacific men's basketball junior forward Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) was been selected to the 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team ... He earned Third Team honors ... Christian is a Sports Sciences major in his fifth year at Pacific and holds a 3.46 cumulative grade point average ... Maraker is the first Tiger to earn Academic All-America honors since Steve Howard was an honorable mention selection in 1981-82.

PACIFIC EARNS 12TH CONFERENCE TITLE IN 2004-05: With Pacific's 79-56 win over UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 16, 2005 the Tigers clinched the 2004-05 Big West Conference regular season title ... It was the 12th regular season title for Pacific in school history ... The Tigers shared the title in 2003-04 with Utah State ... It was the fourth regular season title for Head Coach Bob Thomason, but sixth if you count the two he earned as a player (1969-70 and 1970-71).

PACIFIC SIGNS FOUR FOR 2006-07: University of the Pacific Head Men's Basketball Coach Bob Thomason announced today the signing of four student-athletes to letters of intent for the 2006-07 season. Igor Fishbeyn, DeAngelo Garrett, Solomon HorseChief and C.J. Morgan will all enter Pacific in the fall of 2006. Fishbeyn is a 6-9 center from San Francisco, Calif. He is a sophomore at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz after spending his freshman season at Great Falls University in Montana. Last year at Great Falls, Igor averaged 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 50% from the field and 57% from the free throw line. "Igor is a big, strong and skilled post player," said Thomason. "He has the ability to make three-pointers, as well as score on the block." Garrett comes to Pacific from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. A 6-8 forward/center, Garrett averaged 8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Jets last year as a freshman. The team captain, he shot 52% from the field and averaged a steal per game. "DeAngelo is a power forward who will be able to play center for us as well," said Thomason. "He will bring an excellent inside presence to the team. He is a great young man with a tremendous upside." HorseChief is a 6-3 guard from Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma. He averaged 8.2 points, 5.1 steals and 2.7 steals per game in his first year at Redlands. He was an All-Bi State League Honorable Mention selection after leading his team to a 27-4 record and undefeated mark in conference games. He graduated in 2004 from Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He averaged 14.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.0 steals per game while as a senior in 2004. "Solomon is a very versatile guard and can play both guard spots," said Thomason. "He is a very smart, heady player, with an excellent feel for the game." Morgan is a 6-0 guard from Elk Grove, Calif. He is a senior at Franklin High School in Elk Grove, where he was an Sacramento Bee All-Metro selection after leading the team to a 25-7 record. Morgan set a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff record last season with 52 points in a semifinal victory over Modesto. He averaged 18.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game last season at Franklin HS, earning all-leauge honors and team MVP accolades. He was chosen as a 2005-06 All-America Honorable Mention by Street and Smith's College Basketball 2005-06 Yearbook. "C.J. is a tremendous shooter who has range to 25 feet," said Thomason. "We feel he can come in and help us be successful at both guard positions."

NEIMEYER TO REDSHIRT: Tiger freshman Casey Neimeyer is redshirting the 2005-06 season ... He came to Pacific from Woodland Christian High School, where he was the Central Valley Christian League MVP his senior season ... He helped lead the Cardinals to a 13-1 league record in 2004-05 under coach Doug Brown ... He will also pitch for Pacific on the Tiger baseball team.

FLORES SUSPENDED: Senior center Miguel Flores has been suspended from the team indefinitely for academic reasons ... He averaged 2.9 points and 2.0 rebounds over the first 11 games.

HURLEY LEAVES TEAM: Freshman guard Kevin Hurley (Fresno, Calif.) has left the team for personal reasons ..."Kevin got along with all of his teammates and coaches, and he will be missed," said Thomason ... "He is an outstanding young man and we wish him the best." ... Hurley had appeared in just two games for the Tigers, scoring three points.
