Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's basketball team got a career-high 28 points from senior Johnny Gray (Agoura Hills, Calif.) as the Tigers dealt Texas A&M its first loss of the season, 63-56.
With the win, the Tigers moved to 9-4 on the season, while Texas A&M fell to 10-1.
The Tigers and Aggies battled back and forth in the first half, with two ties and eight lead changes. Pacific held a 26-25 halftime lead behind 10 points from Gray.
The Aggies used a 15-7 run to start the second half, and took a 40-33 lead with 12:32 left in the game. Pacific then went on a 17-3 run over the next seven minutes, to take a 50-43 lead with 5:27 left in the game. Gray scored 12 of Pacific's 17 points in that run and 18 points in the last 10 minutes of the contest. Pacific's lead would not fall below five the rest of the way, as the Tigers hit 11 of 12 free throws in the last five minutes.
The only other Tiger in double figures was senior Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) with 14 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Joseph Jones led Texas A&M with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Both teams committed 17 turnovers in the game, with the Tigers outscoring Texas A&M 17-10 on points off of turnovers.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 7 as the Tigers open the Big West Conference season with a home contest against UC Riverside at 3 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
