Tigers Power Past UC Davis, 84-51

Davis, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team posted their eighth win of the season with a convincing 84-51 victory on the road at UC Davis on Thursday, December 29. With the win the Tigers improved to 8-4 overall while the Aggies dropped to 3-8.

Behind a quick start and strong play up and down their lineup, the Tigers ran away with an easy road win on Thursday night. The Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead to open up the game, forcing the Aggies into two turnovers and holding UC Davis without a field goal for nearly four minutes. Despite a small run by Aggies and foul trouble for some of Pacific's starters, the Tigers pushed their lead to 18 points by half at 36-18, with 14 points coming from off the bench. Redshirt Freshman Anthony Brown (Sacramento, Calif.) led the way off the bench for the Tigers, posting a new career-high in scoring in the first half alone, netting nine points. Brown finished the game with 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and 8-of-11 from the line.

The second half was more of the same for the Tigers as they were able to take advantage of the Aggies interior defense, outscoring UC Davis, 22-to-0 inside the paint. With the game in hand, the Tigers saw even more production out of the bench, outscoring the Aggies 22-to-2 from the bench. Pacific scorched the net in the second half, shooting a blazing 69.6% from the field 66.7% from behind the arc. Overall, the Tigers shot 60.4% from the field while holding the Aggies to 30.9% shooting.

On the night, the Tigers saw 11 of their 12 players put their names into the scorebook led by Brown's 18 points. Three other players hit double figure with senior Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) netting 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Maraker posted his seventh double-double in eight games despite playing just 17 minutes in the game. Junior Michael White (Capitola, Calif.) posted 12 points while tallying a career-high eight rebounds and freshman Steffan Johnson (Kent, Wash.) scored 11 points as he went a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc.

The Aggies were led by Phil Rasmussen and Kyle Brucculeri as the duo both scored 16 points on the night. Rommel Marentez netted eight points to round out UC Davis' top scorers.

The Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday, January 3, as they play host to the undefeated Aggies of Texas A&M. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
