Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers women's basketball team dropped a 109-58 decision to No. 11 Stanford on Thursday, Dec. 1. The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-5 on the season, while the Cardinal moved to 4-1 on the season.
With a quick outburst at the start of the game, the No. 11 Cardinal took control of the game, jumping out to a 31-8 led in the first ten minutes. Down 23, the Tigers ran with the Cardinal the rest of the half, cutting the lead to 19 at one point and playing even for the final ten minutes of the opening half. The Tigers saw their freshman shooter Renee Roberts (Lodi, Calif.) come alive in the first half, leading the Tigers with eight points, including two three-pointers in the opening period. Roberts finished the game with a career-high 11 points, including three baskets from behind the arc.
After pushing the lead to 25 before the break, the Cardinal came out firing in the second half, pushing their lead out to 42 with a 23-6 over the first ten minutes of the second half. The Tigers sophomore point guard Kelsey Lavender (Lake Oswego, Ore.) tried to push Stanford's defense in the second half, leading the Tigers' half with 10 points in the period. For the game, Lavender had a game-high 17 points to lead all scorers.
For the game, five Cardinal players scored in double figures led by Pac-10 Player of the Year Candice Wiggins who tied for a team-high 16 points with Brooke Smith. Krista Rappahahn added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from behind the arc while Cissy Pierce added 12 and Jillian Harmon added 11.
The Pacific Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 8 as the Tigers travel to Boulder, Colorado to face the University of Colorado at 7 p.m. (MT).
