Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers women's volleyball team defeated the UC Davis Aggies, 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 6. The win moved Pacific to 8-7 on the season, while UC Davis fell to 2-16 overall.
UC Davis got off to fast start in the first game of the match as the Aggies built a 8-4 lead. Pacific senior Sidney Bennett (Louisville, Ky.) rallied the Tigers quickly as Pacific scored the next eight points. Bennett had three of her 10 kills during the run, while freshman Rebecca Mason (Los Gatos, Calif.) had two service aces. The Tigers also forced UC Davis into three errors to take a 12-8 lead. Pacific never looked back as the Tigers took game one, 30-22.
Game two saw the Tigers dominate on both offense and defense as Pacific took a 2-0 lead in the match, 30-15. The Tigers had 14 kills and just three errors in 35 swings for a .314 hitting percentage, while forcing UC Davis into nine errors and a -.057 hitting percentage in game two.
Pacific continued to play well coming out of the break as the Tigers built an 18-8 lead in the third and decisive game, before capturing the match 30-20.
Senior Ashley Groothuis (Aurora, Neb.) led the Tigers with a match-high 13 kills and posted her sixth double-double of the season with 12 digs. Nicole Read led UC Davis with seven kills.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 as Pacific hosts UC Irvine at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
