The Pacific Tigers women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at UC Davis on Friday, Oct. 28. With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 10-8-1, while the Aggies improved to 5-9-3 for the season.
Six of Pacific's eight losses this season have come by just one goal, including three 1-0 defeats in the last 10 games.
UC Davis's Kristin Aja scored the only goal of the game, with just under a minute remaining in the first half.The second half proved to be a battle of the goalkeepers as Pacific keeper Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) recorded eight of her 11 saves and Aggie keeper Krystyn Lizak had five of her seven after the break.
The Tigers and Aggies were nearly even in shots, with UC Davis holding a slight 18-17 advantage. Leon led the Tigers with five shots, including four on goal.
With nine points, the Tigers finished tied for fourth in the Big West Conference and earned a spot a and earned a spot in the Big West Tournament by winning the tiebreaker. The top four teams in the Big West Conference earn a berth in the championships. The Tigers finished in a three-way tie with Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara with nine points. However, Pacific won the tiebreaker based on its 2-0 record against the other tied teams. The tournament will take place next weekend at either Cal State Fullerton or UC Riverside.
