San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Cal Poly on Sunday, Oct. 23. The loss dropped the Tigers to 10-7-1 on the season and 3-4 in Big West Conference play. The Mustangs, meanwhile, moved to 10-4-4 and 2-3-1 in conference action.
The lone goal of the game came early in the second half as Cal Poly's Danielle Camarena dashed through the midfield and finished a crossing pass from Kelsey Carroll to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers had two close scoring opportunities as junior Kelsey Nagel (Lynwood, Wash.) just missed a goal as Cal Poly's Liz Hill pushed the shot off the crossbar with her fingertips.
Pacific sophomore Bunny Dickson (Millbrae, Calif.) had the final chance for the Tigers as she dribbled past five Cal Poly defenders in the final minute. Unfortunately for Pacific, her shot sailed wide.
Nagel led the Tigers with four shots in the game. Cal Poly outshot Pacific, 20-13 in the contest.
Despite the loss, Pacific remains alive in the chase to play in the Big West Championship. The top four teams in the Big West Conference earn a berth in the championships. With nine points, the Tigers need a win or tie by UC Santa Barbara when they play Cal Poly on Friday, Oct. 28.
Pacific's final regular season game of the season will be on Friday, Oct. 28 as the Tigers travel to Davis, Calif. to face the UC Davis Aggies at 2 p.m.
